HISTORY OF THIS PIANO: it lived most of its life as a stage instrument for feature artists in a concert theatre in Victoria BC. When I acquired it, I had it fully refinished in brushed ebony satin (2007) before bringing it to my home in Vancouver BC where it was used as a home-studio instrument since then. When I moved to Toronto in 2022 I could not part with it and moved it here with me.

Selling only because of a long-distance move and a change in circumstance. Having a piano of this caliber in my home was a joy I constantly marveled at. This is and was my dream instrument and I hope for it to become yours!

MODEL BACKGROUND - The Baldwin SD-10 Concert Grand full-size 9’0” piano was for many years one of the two American-made pianos found on concert stages throughout the world. Especially from the late 60’s to the 1980’s, Baldwin concert grands were neck and neck with Steinway D concerts and earned an enthusiastic devoted following. Full German-made Renner action. Although Baldwin no longer makes 9 foot concert size pianos today, the SD10 was Baldwin’s flagship model and was built without compromise using only the finest materials.

THIS INSTRUMENT/ CARE & CHARACTERISTICS:
My piano is from this golden age of Baldwin’s history (1977; serial number 218453) and is an exceptional specimen. It features upper clarity for great Mozart, Bach and jazz, and incredible lower fat warm bass register that makes Brahms and Rachmaninov shine.

It has been kept in a closely monitored environment (temperature & humidity) and is really in the prime of its life. Suitable to be a concert instrument in any size facility, it has a commanding, ebony-rich bass end, and a sparklingly clear upper end. Middle range (the most used, most crucial) is round but without being marshmallowy in feel or indistinct (like Steinways can frequently become)…
It is incredibly stable with its tuning. All pedals work flawlessly.
