Description of Blüthner grand piano,Model number 6 (6’ 3’’), 1903, Leipzig, Germany

I bought the Blüthner piano in Ottawa in 2001 from a young classical pianist who had just finished his university studies and who was selling it to go into business in the computer field. To convince me of the quality of his piano, he played me a Beethoven sonata. I liked the sound of the piano, although the furniture itself needed a facelift, particularly the piano lid which was in such poor condition that it had to be replaced with a new lid. As soon as I purchased the piano, I had it transported to a piano restoration workshop in the Montreal region, L'atelier de pianos du Québec', to have it completely restored, either to replace the strings, check the hammers and the complete action, to repaint the entire piano including the harp in two golden colors. The piano looks very good. The harp of this piano is a work of art, because this particular piano was a choice of the royal families of Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries as shown in the following article. The piano has a long history and when I bought it, the seller told me that the piano had probably belonged to Anton Kuerti, a European pianist who now lives in Canada. I therefore sent an email to the pianist Kuerti who replied that in fact the piano corresponded to a piano which he had owned and which he had lent to another equally well-known and important musician, violinist Lorand Fenyves. The seller also informed me that he had purchased the piano possibly from a certain Paul Armin, a member of a Toronto rock band known as Lighthouse. And that’s how the piano came to me.

1903 Julius Blüthner "Kaiser Wilhelm II" Grand Piano for sale (serial 62591)
This impressive instrument which falls under the Supreme Edition has beautifully turned legs, a characteristic styled lyre which is, in itself, a real work of art, and an ornate music desk that give it a special historic flair. Styled in black glossy mahogany, it measures 6 f. 3 i.
This piano was completely restored by a reputable piano specialist some years ago and would look gorgeous in any living room. The piano features the famous aliquot system i.e., a fourth string for every note in the treble section, which runs parallel to the normal strings, passes over the bridge but is elevated where the hammer strikes; it picks up the vibrations sympathetically and enhances the overtone spectrum of the instrument. The piano was completely regulated and tuned recently.
This model of Blüthner pianos is still being made today and still features ‘Quality above everything’ which remains the Julius Blüthner’s work moto. To hear the sound of a Blüthner, piano, Model 6, paste the following URL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y5WX1waHdI into the You tube web site. The piano was appraised recently by a piano expert at $40 000. I would be prepared to part with this work of art at $ 30000.
