The appearance resembles a significantly shortened grand piano in depth, but this is not just an electronic piano made to look like a grand piano. It is a high-end hybrid piano featuring real wooden keys, just like those of an acoustic piano, and it uses the same wooden key action mechanism found in grand pianos.

Thanks to this authentic grand piano touch, the natural and high-quality feel of the instrument is something that doesn't easily fade over the years. As for the sound engine, it features sampled sounds from Yamaha's own concert grand pianos, an area in which Yamaha excels.

The exterior is shaped like a smaller version of a grand piano, with a lid that can be fully or partially opened. It also comes with an automatic performance function, allowing it to be placed in a living room or similar space for the enjoyment of simply listening to it play.

With the automatic performance feature, you can enjoy ensemble playing with XG sound sources. Of course, it also includes recording functions to built-in memory or floppy disks, and during playback, the keys move to reproduce the touch of the original performance—an incredibly useful feature for lessons and practice.

By using headphones, you can play without worrying about disturbing those around you. Up to two pairs of headphones can be connected, allowing for lessons or duet performances even while using headphones.

There are around 40 floppy disks included, featuring music from film scores, jazz, pop, and more—adding up to over 360 songs in total.

This player piano can also be used as background music for weddings and parties.

Additionally, it is equipped with a TO HOST terminal and MIDI ports, allowing connection to a computer for exchanging music data via the internet, as well as communication with other MIDI devices (though I personally have never tried using the MIDI ports, etc.)
