PianoWorks loves to present some of the more rare and wonderful pianos we can find for our customers. This fully-refurbished Yamaha model YUS is among their premium models. Made in Japan in 1980, the YUS is 48″ tall. More importantly, the YUS is the seriously upgraded version of the popular Yamaha U1. In fact, when this piano was new, it’s retail price was 34% more than the standard U1…but why?

Special features on the YUS model include a vented 3-piece top panel. In addition to added styling, the vents that join the 3 panels allow more sound to get through directly to the pianist, increasing nuance and feedback for the pianist. Importantly, the YUS has upgraded construction. Most uprights including Yamaha construct their uprights with vertical posts in the back, however, the YUS has a “Star” or “X” back construction (see photo) inspired by the premium German piano maker, Grotrian-Steinweg. This unique construction increases the strength and rigidity of the frame, contributing to greater stability, increased dynamic range and improved sustain. Additionally, the YUS features more select wood used in the soundboard and a special hammer selected for their premium pianos.
