The “Acrosonic” model was introduced by Baldwin in 1936 when the trend towards smaller homes led to the development of the spinet, the smallest of the acoustic piano designs. Because the diminutive size of spinets greatly compromised their tonal capabilities, Baldwin designed the Acrosonic with a high tension stringing scale and top quality woods to produce a piano with a fine tone given its small size. Over the years pianists and teachers came to recognize the Acrosonic as the “best of the spinets”. Many thousands were sold between the 1930s and the 1990s when spinet production ceased throughout the industry. Acrosonics were offered in hundreds of cabinet designs but one of the rarest is the striking Danish Modern style offered here.
