Steinway has a long history of collaborating with both designers and artists to create some of the most exquisite and provocative Art Case pianos in the world. Sometimes it’s a limited edition run of a certain model, each numbered and signed for authenticity. Sometimes it’s a bespoke piano commissioned by a private collector. And sometimes it’s a one-of-a-kind piece marking an important milestone or celebrating the vision of an inspired, talented artist or designer.



To celebrate the 200th birthday of Steinway’s founder, Henry E. Steinway (b. Heinrich Englhard Steinweg, in Germany, Feb. 1797), the company resurrected a beautiful design from 1902 by J.B. Tiffany (cousin of Louis Comfort Tiffany), then head of the art case department at Steinway.



A limited commemorative collector’s edition, there were only 200 pianos built in total, shared between the L and B models. Some were made with African Pommele, some with East Indian Rosewood.



We are offering a model B, in the pommele finish, plaque #44 of 200. Tiffany’s design was understated yet luxurious, with a hand-carved tulip pattern on the edges of the lid and an “egg and dart” molding encircling the piano’s body and legs. The entire design exudes a warm, stately presence.



We can’t forget that this beautiful Tiffany Art Case surrounds a 6’ 11” model B piano – arguably the most desired instrument Steinway builds to this day.
